Nairobi, Kenya: The World Macadamia Organization (WMO) has unveiled plans to support Kenyan farmers in accessing international markets for macadamia products.
Speaking in Nairobi during the start of a weeklong familiarization tour, WMO chief executive officer Jillian Laing emphasized efforts to boost demand in key markets such as China, India, and the US. “We are promoting macadamias globally, explaining their benefits to drive growth in both established and untapped markets,” Laing said.
She noted that as global macadamia supply increases, the industry needs clear guidelines and accessible information to meet market expectations—areas WMO continues to address.
Funded by processors in leading macadamia-producing nations, WMO works to raise the nut’s profile, improve sustainability, and provide vital insights for food manufacturers and consumers.
Kenya is currently the world’s third-largest exporter of macadamia nuts, after South Africa and Australia. To tackle challenges like the global supply glut, WMO recommends boosting domestic sales of value-added macadamia products.
