Unknown gang attacked Nangina Parish Convent in Nangosia in Busia County leaving a man dead and a nun nun seriously injured early today .
According to Busia County Commissioner ,Mongo Chimwaga ,”They killed a man named Fredrick Ouma who is a night guard at the convent. He had responded to an alarm from the staff quarters during the attack where he was killed on the spot.”
He says thugs raided the house of Roselyn Wanyonyi a nurse at Nangina Hospital in a move he said it was an inside job which he believes the move was after stealing important documents to cover up something within the hospital. He noted that stealing other items such as mobile phones and ATMs was just a way to cover up the entire event.
“These people knew what they were looking for and where to get it from the word go. They went direct to the house where they believed what they wanted was. It is not normal for such an operation to be executed in that manner if there was no insider,” he explained
However he noted that security team responded to the scene but it was already late since they had already left. He believe that some people within the convent are behind the attack adding that the ladder they used to climb the wall in and out belonged to the convent and was inside the compound that evening before the attack that night.
“Our crime security team responded to the scene immediately but it was late since they had gone. But one thing I can a sure we are going to get these people. We believe it was organized within. It was not a normal,” He added.
According to the commissioner this was the third attempt of robbery after the previous two failed when the guards prevented them from taking place. He noted that thieves attacked the house of one nurse who work at Nangina Hospital stealing two mobile phones, some documents, ATM cards and three thousand Kenya shillings.
The residents led by the area Member of Parliament Paul Otuoma and area MCA John Obwogo blamed the security machinery for laxity by failing to respond immediately to avert the killings when they were alerted. They believe that security officers in the region have been there for long hence compromising their work calling for their transfer.
“Security officers here are somehow lazy. They were informed on time but took longer to respond yet they are few kilometers away from the convent. Some of these officers have been here for years calling them to be transferred to other stations and bring other officers who will perfume,” Otuoma noted.
He noted that security officers are on the case and are carrying out investigation to arrest persons involved.
