As Africa prepares to celebrate the day of the African child on 16th June, as a journalist I have memories of the African Child. Most of my memories have been around the injustices that the African child has to endure. I will speak of my county, Kenya. So much has been done in terms of protecting children in terms of policy and other protection measures. However, there needs more to be done in terms of implementing. We have the constitution, Children’s Act, The African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, among many others are some of the laws expected to protected African children. Despite this, children are still facing some worst forms of abuse and negligence in the society. This year’s theme being..Access to a Child-Friendly Justice System in Africa” we expect an improved justice system for the African child.
