Busia, Kenya: Busia County Government transferred a title deed to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) as part of preparations for the construction of the Sio Port in Busia County.
KPA received a 0.6-hectare plot in the Samia/Bujwanga/275 area for the development of the port.
According to Marine Operations Manager KPA Kisumu Mr. William Tenei, on behalf of Managing Director Mr. William Ruto, the port is a link to the open lake, to enable Busia residents to trade among themselves and cross over to Uganda, and Tanzania.
“The residents can also enjoy trading with neighboring countries like Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homa Bay counties via Lake Victoria,” he elaborated.
He says KPA intends to construct a modern Jetty with associated facilitation. There will be a storage space for cargo and some landing places for small boats and cargo vessels, a passenger lounge, and a police station for security within the port.
“Apart from that we also expect to have a multi-agency building whereby the rest of government agencies can cooperate and assist in the port operations.”
Busia County Assembly Deputy Majority Chief Whip and also the Agenga/Nanguba MCA where Sio Port is based Mr. Camulus Obada appreciated the work done by the county leadership Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma and area Member of Parliament Dr. Oundoh Mudenyo for their efforts to see to it that Sio Port in Funyula Constituency, is managed by Kenya Ports Authority.
“I am happy because of the move and the area will develop in terms of the road network and people within and without will be employed,” he stated.
Busia County Chief of Staff Mr. Vincent Mutanda was there on behalf of the Busia Governor to oversee the process of handing over the document to Mr. Wiliam Tenei of the KPA Kisumu Branch.
