This novel serves as an inspiring ode. It simplifies complex scientific issues and simplifies environmental conservation matters into human interest topics and is easy to read, understand and apply.

The Gabon Forest is part of the Congo Basin, one of the world’s most important and largest ecosystems.

Having been degraded for decades.

The book also gives solutions on how the rich natural resources in Gabon forest can be utilized responsibly by indigenous communities such as non-timber activities such as rubber tapping, medicial plants, sustainable hunting. Conserving forests by using forest ecosystems becomes vital as a sequester of carbon dioxide.  The book emphasizes the importance of local people in the importance of conserving the ecosystems.

The Gabon Forest is a home to millions of communities in Congo Basin region. The vast Gabon forest covers 267,667 square kilometers.  Since the world has availed carbon markets, communities in Gabon signed an agreement with the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) for payments on various aspects of protecting the forest. Hence, communities’ participation in activities reducing emission of carbon dionxide can receive incentives to engage in such practices.

The vast forest covers covers five countries in the Congo Basin. They are Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Central African Republic.

Scientists from across the world also come to do their research in the vast forest due to its vast biodiversity. Data from the World Wildlife Fund shows that in Gabon alone, there are 85,000 forest elephants. There is also a diverse fauna of 600 species. But studies are being done to continue with the classification.

The forest covers 88 percent of the central African country. Making it one of the most forested countries in the world with a large forest cover.

But all these aspects fall under the Sustainable Development Goals. The book highlights some challenges such as Gabon relying heavily on rainforest agriculture for food security and agriculture sector.

Carbon sequestration is very vital for the conservation of the forest. The book highlights this quite comprehensively. It gives alternatives to this as part of climate resilience.
