The national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma has drafted custodian Lilian Awour who features for Nyakach Secondary and Women Premier League Side, Makolanders FC defender Jackline Akoth to his 27 member provisional squad that is expected to begin residential training at Kasarani ahead of the inaugural CECAFA Women Football Tournament set for September 11to 24 in Kampala, Uganda.
The youngster, Awour was so impressive during the just concluded Airtel Raising Stars Secondary School Term two B national games that were played in Kisumu early this Month.
The duo joins the retained 25 players who were in the last camp during the fifth edition of COTIF Women Football Tournament in Valencia,Spain early this Month where the team finished fourth.
Speaking on the developments, Harambee Starlets team manager Dorine Nabwire said Awour was outstanding during the national games a reason they gave her a chance to be part of the national team squad.
“I will be in Eldoret for the East Africa School Games to keep an eye on Awour and also watch her play. Akoth has shown growth when turning out for her club Makolanders FC in the women Premier League but all this is geared to towards giving opportunity to individuals who are performing well in their respective outings,” she said.
Nabwire however observed that the experienced they had in Spain will come in handy in the regional tournament as they beef up preparations for the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) finals that is set for November 19 to December 3 in Cameroon’s two cities of Limbe and Yaunde. Other nations that have confirmed participation include Rwanda,Ethiopia,Burundi,Tanzania,Sudan,South Sudan,Kenya and the hosts Uganda.
