After a successful trip to Spain where they took part in the fifth edition of COTIF Women Football Tournament last week where they finished fourth, the national women football team, Harambee Starlets striker Esse Akida said she is now focusing on club assignments.

Akida who had a fruitful outing in Spain where she emerged the top scorer with five goals said she wants to focus on the Women Premier League with her side Mombasa-based Spedag FC to continue with her scoring spree.

“Am really humbled. Emerging top scorer in the event that featured high rated teams in the World is something to be proud of, however I couldn’t achieve this if it was not for my fellow players and the technical bench at large. My hope and my prayer is that, the exposure and experience I picked in Spain will come in handy ahead of the second leg as we intend to pick from where we left in the first leg,” she said.

Akida joined Zone A side Spedag this season from Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) said thanks to their participation in the event, the team gained experience that will enable them prepare well in the forthcoming CECAFA Women Senior Challenge Tournament that is set for Uganda next Month.

Harambee Starlets is using the tournaments as preparations for the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroon.

Spedag will begin their second leg with a match against Makolander who they defeated 2-1 in the first round, before Soccer Sisters play Soccer Queens at Camp Toyoyo as Thika Queens welcome Mombasa Olympic in Thika.
