A group of ten girls who resumed their education after giving birth in Busia County were recently given sanitary towels courtesy of Busia women representative, Florence Mutua .
Speaking at a fundraising at St. Michael Buduma Girls secondary school , Mrs Mutua noted that among the ten girls who received the sanitary towels four were from St. Michael Buduma Girls while others were from different schools within the county.
According to the women Representative, the program was launched across the county to enable all girls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies get another chance to continue with their education. “Most girls drop out of school not because of their own making, thus the need to have them return to school to pursue their future dreams,” She said.
She noted that nobody will convince her otherwise in her quest to empower the girl within the county. She urged the entire community and leaders to follow her move to make sure that every girl who dropped out of school as a result of early pregnancy gets a second chance to better her life.
“These are our girls we need to hold them and bring them back to the system to enable get enough education. Let us not use the excuse of pregnancies to deny them education they deserve,” she noted
However she warmed girls from engaging in premarital sex adding that most girls are lured into early sex by boda boda operators who promise them small monies and in return they damp them.
The school principal Patricia Esibila supported the noble gesture by adding that this will shape the girls future lives.” I am fully in support of this program, if we all embrace this I know we will have girls and future women who are educated and economically empowered. We can’t do that if we close doors for these girls because they got early pregnancies. Those days are gone, education is for every person,” she explained.
